Is the season over yet?
Have we ever had a winter that has brought the conversation about snow and climate change so much to the fore. Europe and East coast states are having the worst snow fall in decades, whilst the West coast of America is having the most they’ve had in just as long.
Fortunately a bad winter is still a winter and we have some good days, but there is no hiding the fact that temperature fluctuations between weather events is so much more erratic these days and once predictable seasons no longer follow the familiar patterns.
We’ve only had a couple of major storms this winter and have had some great times in the days that followed, as our socials will show, but as I sit here now at the chalet it’s looking very green along the valley. The skiing is still good on the higher slopes and everyone enjoys a sunny day on the mountain, but there is no denying it’s mid-march and spring appears to be here already. Although things were much the same this time last year, the year before we still had 2 feet of snow on our front lawn at the chalet.
Last year however, at the beginning of April it dumped and we ended the season with more snow than we had in March. A similar pattern is happening this year, whether it will be as productive remains to be seen, but it seems winter is far from over and we still have some good days to come.
The question is can we deduce any predictions about next year or is the weather just becoming too unpredictable. I have a theory, but you’ll have to wait till nest time for that one. Right now though looking forward to Tuesday, 50 cm due over the weekend and Tuesday is when the sun is next due to come out. Lets hope the short term forecasts are still holding true.
